long story or many short parts?

any opinions?  the story i'm working on now has a 4 chapter structure, and i'm torn between doing it as one big thing or four smaller things.  i finished part two today, so the word counts are ~2600, ~2100 right now.  the benefit of a long thing is that i think that's easier to stay motivated to write.  the benefit of the short ones is that it makes the story seem longer, without needing to devote a giant block of time for reading.

maybe i should just write it as one, and release it as four?  then what happens if part 3 is boring?

a lot of this is fragments that were kind of the foundations for a story that never worked.  this morning i decided to just take the bits i had, and put them together without worrying about "reasons" and "characters" and stuff like that.  this is clearly influenced by some of Thndrshark's stories, along with my own inherent weirdness.

a new story?

maybe.

this was another dream fragment that i embellished and made make sense.  i have more that could be future chapters, but i'm worried it'll get stuck in my head like all my other stories seem to do.  maybe i just need to bite off smaller chunks, and leave things hanging if i can't make the words work right.

anyway, here's the start of a story that might never be finished, let me know if you enjoy it.

also, like in all the movies, this is a "not based on anyone or anything or any whatever, it's all made up fiction and stuff" kind of thing.  so don't try to wizard-of-oz it and figure out who is william jennings bryant or whatever.

i think it'll be a mixed bag when i publish it.  it's not very sexy, but it covers a lot of plot points that i've had in mind since i started the story.  the big break was me realizing on the commute home that if i don't want to write part x, i can just skip it, and move on to part y.  since this is based on someone else's work, it even has art that covers the bits i didn't want to write.

that's part of it, too.  that part of the story is known to everyone, which means if i want to tell it as well, i have to have something new to say about it.  i don't have anything new to say about it, so it's probably best if i just skip on to the next bit, which i think is funny.

and then part three, with all of the new things i want to put in that.

um, how am i supposed to respond if you don't give me a way to contact you?  so here are the answers:

1) not peeing for 12 hours isn't super hard.  haven't you gone to sleep and slept a really long time?  besides, i checked, and they are only in the bags for like ten hours.  that's two easier.

2) no.  there are many reasons why, but the answer is no.  write your own stories if you have ideas.  that will always be better than trying to make someone else write the story you want to read.  also: isn't toto grey?  that's not a spray-tan-able color, is it?  so so many reasons why "no".

omg i am dying

there won't be any stories up in the near future.  it is fucking a billion degrees, and doing anything more than "sweating to death" is too much effort.  you said the trades would be back last week, kanoe.  there were no trades.  today you're like, "whoops!  honolulu didn't have a record, but the other islands did!"  make the sky suck less, kanoe.

i'm also thinking (once it cools down and i can catch up some) that i should start making story "traps."  the idea is that once i have the outline finished, i schedule that as a blog post for a year in the future.  then, if i slack off and don't write the story in that year, the outline just goes up and i admit that i'm bad at this.  i think that provides a bit more incentive to actually sit my butt down and write some.

which i would have today during the hours of nothing to do that i spent dying from the heat.  i'm going to blame the heat for why this morning's dream stories were all horror when i intentionally went back to snooze expecting sexy-fun dreams.

and i was dumb on friday night and logged in to a dating site i haven't used in years, and immediately got a message that i've been ignoring.  i should really have a pre-written "i'm sorry that i'm terrible at being a human being" note to send when that happens.

i'm going to try super hard to get "o1" finished and out this weekend.  i was going to write more tonight, but then i didn't, so that's how things work. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

but i want it to be done and released because i'm taking vacation time next weekend for labor day, and i'm flying to visit my friend in san francisco.

she was super pushy about getting me to visit, so i think it's going to be talking through her problems a lot.  i continue to think that she probably doesn't have any really major problems, although she does have a lazy husband.  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

i just realized that in my head, i've been calling the double-next chapter "The Exhibition: The NOUN: The DIFFERENT-NOUN THAT-FIRST-NOUN".  maybe "The Exhibition: The NOUN (DIFFERENT-NOUN THAT-FIRST-NOUN)"  "The Exhibition: NOUN 2"

i didn't take a day off

i should have.

i can feel the depression pushing back.  i kind of wish i was brave enough to just tell a psychiatrist that i want adhd drugs because i think they'd make me more better at things, and that i think being more better would help me not feel like an awful piece of shit all the time.

i kind of wish i was brave enough to go back and talk to a psychiatrist.

so writing is on hold again until i can get time and enough brain happiness to continue.  sorry.

changed my mind, i think

it'll be "o1", "o2", "k1", "k2" all of which could probably just be "kind of a long rambly story, parts 1-4.

"o1" is nearly done with the first write, and the things I was going to put into "k1" are now in "o2".  then "k1" is new stuff i came up with this morning when i woke up three hours earlier than my alarm and tried to go back to sleep.  then "k2" is the same "k2" it was yesterday that still needs to be planned better than "that stuff happens".

you probably don't care about secret code names for all the parts.  i just feel like my brain isn't as horribly cluttered as usual, and i want to cram as much progress as i can before it all crumbles apart again.

i wrote some of "o" today.  it helps that this morning during my "stupid loud jerk truck woke me up at 9, but i'm not getting out of bed until noon" nap/snooze, i finally sorted out the missing bits of "k".  now that i know where that one's going, i could fix the bits of my "o" notes that didn't work right, and start writing it for real.  i suspect "k" may need to be two parts, as there's just too much stuff to get out in one part.  so, "o", "k1", "k2".  then i think "d", which isn't a kinky part, and then i need to sort out how i want the story to progress.
